When: Thursday, September 18th at 7:00pm
Where: Bookish, 1005 NW 36th Street, Oklahoma City, OK

2025 is here and VHSANDCHILL OKC is resurrecting one of our classic screening series from days past - VHS GRINDHOUSE is back!
VHS GRINDHOUSE is a series of classic films that may or may not be the greatest films ever made! This VHS delights are pulled straight from the VHSANDCHILL OKC collection. Movies that DESERVE their day in court for the crimes committed TO them or BY them! These films will scream from the heavens the madness that is their message!
Five teen friends (Giovanni Ribisi, Amie Carey, Steve Zahn, Nicky Katt, Dina Spybey) spend their time hanging out behind a convenience store in a sleepy Texas town. Through pointless discussions, the group descends into a self-perpetuating cycle of malaise. Their routine, however, brakes when Pony (Jayce Bartok) returns to town after finding success as a rock star, forcing the group to question their desire to stay in the suburbs doing nothing with their lives.
Continuing our year long series of screening films that were released in the far-flung past year of 1996, this is a film I watched in high-school and I REALLY dug it. I think you guys will too! This film feels like a lost film from a big time director. From director Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Boyhood), this movie seems like nobody really talks about it anymore and I think that's a shame. This film was based on a play and filmed mostly in Austin, TX. It's known for it's killer 90's soundtrack with songs from Sonic Youth, Beck, The Flaming Lips, Butthole Surfers and more. We'll have a fun giveaway too!
'Anything is possible. It is night on planet earth and I'm alive. And someday I'll be dead. Someday I'll just be bones in a box, but right now, I'm not." - Jeff
**PRESENTED ON ORIGINAL VHS IN GLORIOUS PAN & SCAN**

THE ERNEST FILM CLUB is BACK! In November 2020, we kicked off a series of screenings of the films of Jim Varney's timeless character - ERNEST P. WORRELL. We held these shows in the lobby of the Rodeo Cinema in the OKC Stockyards. It's been 3 and a half years, but we're back! Knowwhatimean???
We're teaming up with the OKLAHOMA FILM EXCHANGE at the old Film Room Screening Room! Make sure to follow them for more fun shenanigans!
Now that the ERNEST FILM CLUB is back, we're going back to the beginning with the first theatrical Ernest film from the before time of 1987!
Ernest (Jim Varney), a lovable loser who works as a summer camp handyman and dreams of becoming a guidance councilor, must find a way to inspire a group of juvenile delinquents as well as stop a shady strip mining company from closing the camp.
We'll be screening some classic Ernest commercials and TV episodes before the show, so come early and hang with us!

In early 2016 it all started with the dream of having an old school TV wall, the kind we all saw in our favorite 80's and 90's flicks. After a few trips to some local thrifts stores, I had more than enough old TVs and VCRs. It was about this time I came into a collection of a few thousand VHS tapes and not long after VHSANDCHILL nights were born. Every month or so we started showings of classic 80's and 90's movies. As these showings became more popular we began doing some theme showings and marathons. We enjoy watching these showings bring in people from every age group and all walks of life. VHS is dead. Long live VHS!
